Eamonn Vereker at Kaesler Wines

About Eamonn Vereker

Hand-blown Glass

Eamonn Vereker has worked with glass for almost 30 years beginning as an apprentice at Waterford Crystal, Ireland where he qualified as a Master Cutter at the age of 23. Eamonn immigrated to Australia in 1987 bringing with him a strong cultural glass connection of tradition and legend, shaped by the names of places within an Irish landscape.

In 1994 Eamonn established his Glass Studio in Norwood, Adelaide where he introduced a personal style to the Australian studio glass movement that incorporates abstract use of colour, texture and pattern into a variety of shapes. Awarded for fine craftsmanship and quality, Eamonn’s work can be found in Australian galleries and international collections.

The Flinders outback artwork is inspired by rugged mountain ranges, spectacular gorges, creeks lined with river gums and abundant wildlife. Through these pieces he captures the stark contrast of brilliant tones and earthy hues from some of the harshest conditions. Eamonn is quoted as saying “colour and composition are the magic words when working with glass, they become an integral part of creating unique design and form, the attraction of nature lies in its unspoilt expression”. He refers to the landscape as “a form of visual poetry, I try to recreate these infinite complexities that exist in our natural world”.

When Eamonn is not making glass, he enjoys spending time in the Flinders Rangers, amongst vast cloudless blue skies, linked with vine valleys and paddocks of green, shifting sands or glaring lakes, where ancient rivers and creek beds lined with purple ridges once flowed. The Desert Pea with its clusters of red breaking into blossoming colour explosions.  A still desert night with inky blackness, punctuated by light of celestial bodies are all themes captured in Eamonn’s glass art.

Its these properties of the desert landscape that excite Eamonn about being part of the Barossa Arts Festival, as he reminisces about his travels through the region reaching some of the most majestic parts of regional South Australia.
