Anne Clarke at Rusden Wines

Anne Clarke

Printmaking

Anne Clarke has cherished a deep affinity for nature since childhood. From the tender age of three, when her mother first revealed the art of snapping snapdragons in the garden, Anne's fascination with the beauty and transience of flowers became a lifelong pursuit. For her, these blooms serve as poignant reminders of the fragility inherent in our world—a theme that resonates throughout her work.

Deriving joy from the serenity of bird song and the simple pleasure of walking amidst nature, Anne finds inspiration in the commonplace objects that populate her home. Whether received as gifts or collected over time, these items carry personal significance, often serving as lasting mementos evoking memories of individuals or specific moments in her life.

In her artistic practice, Anne employs various techniques, including printing from nature, utilizing Lino tiles, ink, and watercolour. Her choice of materials reflects a harmonious blend of the sturdy lines produced by Lino cutting and the delicate transparency inherent in watercolour. This interplay creates a visual narrative that captures the essence of the subjects she chooses to depict.

For Anne, the unprinted space is as crucial as the printed, and she revels in the creative process of crafting Lino tiles. Embracing the rawness and unpredictability intrinsic to the medium, Anne finds beauty in the craftsmanship, tools, and the very act of creation itself. Her work stands as a testament to the profound connection between art, nature, and the enduring impressions left by the seemingly ordinary objects that populate our lives.
